At Tech Fixer Canberra, we understand that handing over your computer means handing over your digital life. We treat your personal data with the highest level of confidentiality and security.

1. Introduction
Tech Fixer Canberra (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your data when you visit our website, use our mobile repair services, or hand over your devices for diagnostic and repair work in the ACT and surrounding regions.
We strictly adhere to the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
2. Information We Collect
We may collect the following types of information to provide our services effectively:
- Contact Information: Your name, email address, phone number, and residential or business address (necessary for our mobile technicians to reach you).
- Device Information: Make, model, serial numbers, and IMEI numbers of the devices we are repairing (required for insurance reports, warranty claims, and part sourcing).
- Authentication Credentials: Passwords, PIN codes, or swipe patterns. (Note: These are only requested when absolutely necessary to access the operating system for repair verification and are wiped from our records post-repair).
- Website Analytics: Standard non-personally identifiable data such as IP addresses, browser types, and pages visited on our website to improve our online experience.
3. How We Handle Your Personal Device Data
We recognize that your computer, smartphone, or tablet contains highly sensitive personal and financial data. Our strict internal data handling protocol dictates that:
- No Snooping: Technicians will only navigate to the files, folders, and system settings explicitly required to diagnose or repair the reported fault.
- Data Recovery & Staging: If you engage us for Data Recovery services, your recovered files are temporarily held on offline, air-gapped staging servers. These files are never uploaded to cloud storage.
- The 7-Day Wipe Rule: Once your recovered data is successfully handed back to you, we securely and permanently wipe your data from our staging drives within 7 days.
- Non-Disclosure: All Tech Fixer staff are bound by strict Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs). We are happy to sign custom NDAs for commercial and corporate clients.
4. How We Use Your Information
Your personal information is collected solely for the purpose of conducting our business, which includes:
- Dispatching mobile technicians to your Canberra or Queanbeyan location.
- Generating accurate repair quotes, invoices, and Insurance Assessment Reports.
- Communicating with you regarding the status of your repair.
- Processing payments and managing hardware warranties.
5. Third-Party Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.
We may only share your information with trusted third parties under the following strict circumstances:
- Hardware Suppliers: Providing device serial numbers to Australian distributors to source exact OEM replacement parts or claim manufacturer warranties on your behalf.
- Payment Processors: Secure third-party gateways (e.g., Stripe, Square) used strictly to process your repair payments.
- Legal Obligations: If required by Australian law enforcement agencies under a valid subpoena or court order.
6. Your Rights & Access
You have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you and to ask for corrections to be made if it is inaccurate. You may also request the deletion of your contact details from our client database once all outstanding invoices and warranty periods have concluded. To exercise these rights, please contact us at hello@techfixer.com.au.
Data Security FAQs
Do you look through my personal files or photos?
Absolutely not. Our technicians only access the specific system files, drivers, and directories necessary to diagnose and complete your repair. Your personal documents, photos, and browser histories remain strictly confidential and unviewed.
Why do you need my computer or phone password?
We require device passwords solely to log into the operating system to perform necessary diagnostic tests (like audio, WiFi, and camera tests), install new hardware drivers, and verify that the repair was successful. Passwords are wiped from our job management system immediately after the repair is finalized and handed back to you.
What happens to my data after a Data Recovery service?
When we recover data from a failing hard drive or dead MacBook, we temporarily store the files on a secure, offline, air-gapped staging server in our lab. Once we have successfully transferred the data back to your new drive and you confirm everything is present, we permanently and securely wipe your files from our servers within 7 days.
